Turkey donates funds to quake-hit Indonesia

ANKARA - The Turkish Red Crescent will donate 100,000 dollars in emergency funds to help relief efforts following the killer earthquake on Indonesia's Java island, a spokesman said Sunday.
"We are planning to set up a mobile clinic. If not, we will use the funds to procure the aid needed and hand it over to local officials," Ismet Kaytaz, the head of the Turkish Red Crescent team in Indonesia, told the NTV news channel.

Turkish relief workers have been stationed in Indonesia since the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami disaster.

On Saturday, a three-man disaster response team was sent to Java to assess needs on the ground after a quake measuring a 6.2-magnitude on the open-ended Richter scale struck at dawn, killing more than 4,000 people.

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies have also issued an emergency appeal for nearly 10 million dollars to support the rescue operations.
